Parenting
Parenting doesn't come with a manual, and parenting in recovery brings its own challenges. This module is about progress, not perfection.

What the module covers.
The module works through the parenting issues that actually come up in recovery: overindulgence as a coping mechanism for guilt, discipline and healthy boundaries, rebuilding trust with a child who has understandably lost faith, overcoming stigma for both parent and child, parental absence, emotional regulation, co-parenting, and worries about substance use continuing into the next generation, along with the protective factors that reduce that risk.
The second half is forward-looking. Participants learn the five principles of positive parenting from the evidence-based Triple P program, practical ways to strengthen their parenting, and how to talk with their child about addiction, including the 7 Cs from the National Association for Children of Alcoholics: I didn't cause it, I can't control it, I can't cure it, and I can help take care of myself.

How it's delivered.
The module blends video (including a child's-eye view of parental addiction and a guide to explaining addiction to kids), group discussion, and reflection. Activities include the Parenting Values Tree worksheet and a storytelling exercise where participants write their recovery journey in language a child could understand. Participants leave with resources like Triple P Parenting and the National Parenting Education Network.
